Collaborative work is a structured, cross-functional, creative approach to work that allows organizations to engage their people and leverage their collective intelligence to solve complex issues, make strategic decisions, and achieve enterprise results. In these facilitated sessions, supported by team coaching methodologies, participants have improved dialogues allowing them address the tough issues that typically cause change efforts to fail. Involving participants in creating solutions leads to increased buy-in and ultimately, sustainable results. The most important distinction about this method is that it works to resolve both tangible strategic issues and intangible behavioral/culture issues.

We use collaborative work sessions to help clients makes critical decisions in the following areas:

Strategic Planning

An organization’s vision describes the core values and purpose, the principals and beliefs that best represent what the organization stands for and what it desires to be in the future. A strong vision can drive commitment and buy-in among members of the organization, but it is strategy that provides direction. If the vision is the final destination, then the strategy can be thought of as the roadmap for getting there. Having a clearly articulated strategy is essential to achieving organizational goals.

In a collaborative strategic planning session we help organizations examine:

  1. Vision, Mission, and Values
  2. The External Environment: the industry landscape, the marketplace, customers, and competition.
  3. The Organization: structure, systems, and people; products and services; management design; finance; results management and metrics

Culture Evaluation and Transition

When organizational culture and strategy face off, culture almost always beats strategy. You can have the best laid strategic plan in the world, but if you don't take culture into consideration and how it will support or derail the strategy, it will almost always fall short. We use collaborative work sessions to help organizations:

  1. Identify the current-state culture
  2. Based on the new strategy, assess what the desired state culture should be
  3. Articulate the shifts that must be made at the system level and the behavioral competencies that must be developed at the individual level
  4. Create a culture change plan

Change/Transformation Planning

With the strategy and culture identified, the final step is to create a transformation plan that shows how all of the pieces work together and explicitly identifies the links between the strategy (operations) and culture (people). A transformation planning session is focused on:

  1. Determining and prioritizing the initiatives to move the transformation forward
  2. Assessing operating plans and processes
  3. Assessing organizational structure and management design
  4. Establishing systems to manage and measure results
